Power supply unit for microsatellites

Österreichischer Satellit Pegasus

Microsatellites (CubeSats) are a powerful type of small satellite that are usually developed and built in blocks of 10x10x10 cm³. We have been involved in the development of the essential parts of the power supply unit for three such CubeSats to date. Robustness combined with high efficiency plays a decisive role here. Various approaches, from highly complex energy systems with several distributed microprocessors to purely passively controlled systems, have been designed, analysed and tested. With the PEGASUS mission, which was developed in a co-operation between FH Wiener Neustadt, TU Wien Space Team and the Space Tech Group, one of our systems has been able to demonstrate its robustness in low-Earth orbit for 5 years now.
